SEL Distribution
System Simulator

A portable training platform that demonstrates distribution-grid faults, protection, and restoration behavior with a guided touchscreen interface.

A complex system, made understandable.

The simulator turns protection and restoration logic into a visual sequence for demonstrations and training.

Model

Represent sources, loads, circuit breakers, reclosers, junctions, and faulted line segments.

Simulate

Generate line faults and step through isolation, recloser behavior, and restoration decisions.

Explain

Show each system state with clear messages, energized sections, switch status, and manual controls.

Run the original Pygame simulator.

The original Python/Pygame project now runs directly in the browser with the same SEL menu, diagrams, controls, and simulation logic developed for the senior design system.

  • Normal fault location and isolation
  • FLISR isolation and service restoration
  • HDC stepped restoration sequence

No installation is required. The original version may take a few seconds to load its Pygame browser runtime.
